User Account Safety!
It is extremely important for every member, new and old, of Mistic Pets to be aware of account safety. Today, across the internet, it can be very easy for hackers to make their way into someone's account - but only if the account user is not careful.
The number one rule is to never, under any circumstances to give out your password. No matter who may ask you, do not give them your password. If someone offers to help you with an account or help you make some quick MC or play a game for you, do not accept the offer. It may be sincere, but it may also be a scam, and you could end up losing your account and everything inside of it, so do not take this risk.
You must also be aware that Misticpets Staff will never ask you for your password, nor will the staff on Misticpets Help. If you get any messages that tell you they are staff on either site and they are asking you for your password, ignore them. Anyone doing that would only be looking to get into your account and either take it from you or ruin it.
If you share your computer with any family or friends, even if they may not have an account on Misticpets, it is important to logout every time you're done playing. Many people on various websites have lost months of earnings because they didn't logout and their younger sibling hopped on and spent it all. If you are using a browser that saves your password and username, be very careful with how you use it. Opera has a "wand" which will enter your username and password. This can be dangerous if you have siblings or anyone else using the computer who may be interested in using your account how they wish. It can be a handy tool, but be careful using it on a site like Misticpets.
Another thing to keep in mind is what your password actually is. If you want to be extra safe it is best to not make a password that could be found in the dictionary, or even letters that can be switched around to make a word in a dictionary (whether English or otherwise). Hackers have devices that will flip through these possibilities and eventually find it. The best password should consist of letters and numbers that do not resemble any real words. Also, do not use a password that you use for AIM, your e-mail, another website, or anything else whatsoever. This can be extremely dangerous. If someone finds out one password for one thing, they're going to try the same password on other sites they have found that you use.
If you ever think you've been hacked, make sure you contact Mistic Staff immediately! Account hackers will not stick to only spending all of your money or abandoning all of your pets if they have the chance. Hackers have been known to use peoples' accounts to spam forums and other areas of sites to get the account frozen. Please be careful and safe so this doesn't happen to you - it can be tragic!
If you ever may need to change your password, you can do so by going to 'User Preferences' and going to the 'Change Password' page. For more, go to our User Preferences guide.
Aside from passwords and sensitive account information, make sure you never give out your full name or your address to anyone you may meet on Misticpets unless you have met them before and can trust them.
